The Lawn, Lincoln
Lawn Service
Image by Lincolnian (Brian) – BUSY – IN AND OUT
This imposing building is part of ‘The Lawn’ complex. Now both a public amenity and conference centre it is a popular venue for meetings, fayres, weddings etc., a far cry from it original usage. The building opened in 1820 as the Lincoln Lunatic Asylum and was the County’s first purpose-built hospital for the mentally ill. Following the opening of the County Lunatic Asylum at Bracebridge Heath in 1852, there was an increasing emphasis on fee-paying patients. The Asylum was re-named as The Lawn Hospital for the Insane in 1885, taken over by the National Health Service in 1948 and was finally closed in the mid 1980s.

Lawn Service

Image by Be the Change, Inc.
Mission Serve, Habitat for Humanity and Veterans Green Jobs organized civilian volunteers to serve alongside veterans and military family members to build two new homes in the Deanwood neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. on November 10, 2010. The home building project was part of a kick-off event being hosted at over 20 coast-to-coast civilian-military service projects on Veterans Day, November 11, 2010, as part of Mission Serve’s "Call to Service." Bank of America and Walmart also sponsored the event and organized funds as well as employee volunteers to help in the home building efforts. (Jamie Rosen/ewscast)
